WILSON, N.C. — The beginning of a new academic year brings with it a new exhibition at the Barton Art Galleries. “Cat’s Cradle,” featuring paintings by visiting artist Jeanette Cole, goes on display Monday, Aug. 24 and runs through October 2. An opening reception and gallery talk lecture featuring the artist will be held Thursday, Sept. 3. The reception begins at 5 p.m., with the lecture to follow at 6:30. All events are open to the public at no charge, and the community is invited to attend. WILSON, N.C. – April 13, 2015 — Barton College is pleased to announce the opening of “Art Show,” the 2015 Senior Art Exhibition. This showcase opens to the public on Monday, April 20, at the Barton Art Galleries in Case Art Building, and runs through Monday, May 11. Guests will enjoy a variety of works on display by nine talented senior artists: Brooke Allen, Stephanie Barsanti, Michael Farrar, Tyler Freedman, Taylor Hernandez, Teresa Hilton, Brenda Ramirez, Elizabeth Salyers, and Morgan Stancil. WILSON, N.C. – As part of a new photography exhibition, “Photographs by Hugh Morton: An Uncommon Retrospective,” presenting works by the late North Carolina photographer Hugh Morton, Barton College welcomes the man who carefully selected each image now on display. Archivist Stephen J. Fletcher’s presentation, titled “Hugh Morton’s Rise To His Photographic Peak,” will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the Barton Art Galleries in Case Art Building. WILSON, N.C. — North Carolina landscape artist J. Chris Wilson’s “From Murphy to Manteo—An Artist’s Scenic Journey” will be featured on UNC-TV’s “Our State” program airing Thursday, Jan. 2, at 8 p.m. The feature, titled “Scenes from 64,” will showcase the artist as well as scenes and locations of some of his paintings from the emerging 100-painting collection to be completed in 2014. Wilson, an artist-in-residence and professor emeritus at Barton College, will be shown working on location and in his Wilmington studio where much of the interview was filmed.
