Barton Art Galleries and the Friends of Visual Arts Welcome Curator Michael S. Williams on October 28

WILSON, N.C. —October 15, 2021 — The Barton College Friends of Visual Arts and the Barton Art Galleries will welcome curator Michael S. Williams, Thursday, Oct. 28, at 6 p.m. A North Carolina native, Williams fosters community engagement through his work as a consultant and through the Black On Black Project, an organization he founded that works with artists on exhibitions and events that unpack issues affecting the community.

The event will be held in the Virginia Thompson Graves Gallery at the Barton Art Galleries in Case Art Building on campus. Seating will be limited and advance reservations are required because of social distancing requirements, but there is no charge to attend the lecture. Masks will be required for all those attending. About the speaker — 

A graduate of North Carolina Central University, Williams spent 15 years in media at the News & Observer in roles centered on content creation and community building. He has curated more than 20 art exhibitions and programs related to equity in partnership with municipalities, local businesses, and nonprofits. Williams is also the executive producer of several short films and has provided opportunities for critical conversations at scores of events and forums across North Carolina.

Williams is an ardent believer that creatives possess the societal and cultural empathy needed to transform communities. His work in the arts seeks to educate citizens on the nation’s history while communities work toward a more equitable future.
