WILSON, N.C. — Douglas N. Searcy, Ph.D., was announced as the 12th president of Barton College on Friday, January 9, 2015. Dr. Searcy was elected by the Barton College Board of Trustees during a called executive session on Thursday, December 18, 2014.  A search committee composed of trustees and representatives of the faculty, staff, and students recommended Dr. Searcy to the Board of Trustees at the conclusion of an extensive national search.  Dr. Searcy is currently Vice President for Student Affairs at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va., where he is regarded as a decisive leader, skillful collaborator, and strategic visionary. Barton Students Prepare Christmas Gifts for Children in Need

WILSON, N.C. – The Christmas Spirit is strong at Barton College. Students, along with faculty, staff, and others across the campus and Wilson communities, came together to gather items and prepare gift boxes just in time for the holidays. The efforts are all a part of Barton’s support for Operation Christmas Child. Dozens of First-Year Seminar (FYS) students crowded Kennedy Family Theatre before Thanksgiving break. Eleven FYS classes packaged nearly 200 gift boxes full of special items both purchased and collected. Grubb Installs “Voyager” Sculpture on Barton’s Campus

Time Lapse of the Installation   Raising “Voyager”   North Carolina artist Tom Grubb, assisted by Barton faculty and students, installed “Voyager,” a sculpture composed of bamboo and colored rope, on Barton College’s east campus on Sept. 19. Grubb has been a professional artist installing monumental site-specific sculptures in the United States and abroad since 1980. He was the executive director of the Fayetteville Museum of Art from 1990 through 2010, and, prior to that appointment, he was the interim director and artist-in-residence at the Museum.
