WILSON, N.C. — August 17, 2016 — “Unspoken” by artist Sharyn O’Mara debuts in the Barton Art Galleries on Thursday, Aug. 18. O’Mara’s spectacular glass works exhibition will open the 2016-2017 art season on the Barton College campus. An opening reception will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., and the artist will provide a gallery talk at 6 p.m.
O’Mara’s work has been on view across the United States abroad in a number of solo and group exhibitions as well as in several public and private collections in the United States. An artist and an educator, she currently serves as associate professor and head of the glass program for Tyler School of Art at Temple University. Earlier posts have included teaching at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and The Kansas City Art Institute. O’Mara makes her home in Philadelphia, Pa.
A glass installation will be part of O’Mara’s exhibition at the Barton Art Galleries. Barton students will assist with the installation, and a time-lapse camera will be installed to capture details of the intricate process. Plans include screening the video outside the gallery during the exhibit.
The exhibition will be on view from August 18 through September 30.
