Barton’s Joyce T. Boone Southern Authors Series Welcomes Author Tina Barr on October 5

WILSON, N.C. — September 28, 2022 — Barton College will welcome author Tina Barr as the featured speaker for the 2022 Joyce T. Boone Southern Authors Series Lecture. The program will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. in Howard Chapel on campus. This event is open to the public at no charge, and the community is invited to attend.

About the Speaker — 

Barr’s most recent book, “Green Target,” won the Barrow Street Press Poetry Prize and the Brockman-Campbell Award.  Previous books include “The Gathering Eye,” winner of the Tupelo Press Editor’s Award and “Kaleidoscope.”  She’s received fellowships from the NEA, The Tennessee Arts Commission, & the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. Her poems have been published in “The Harvard Review,” “Alaska Quarterly Review,” “American Journal of Poetry,” “Crosswinds,” “Brilliant Corners,” “Barrow Street,” “North American Review,” “Mudfish,” “Tar River Poetry,” “Poetry South,” and elsewhere.

About the Joyce T. Boone Southern Authors Series — 

Joyce T. Boone graduated from Atlantic Christian College with degrees in business administration (1978) and nursing (1988). An enthusiastic advocate for students and alumni of Barton College, Boone believed in the mission of the small, private, liberal arts college. She served on both the Barton College Board of Trustees and the Barton Alumni Council. Boone was president-elect of the Barton College Alumni Council when she passed away in October 2004.
