Theatre Raleigh and Theatre at Barton Present “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” September 27-29

WILSON, N.C. — September 10, 2019 — Barton College is proud to present Theatre Raleigh’s production of  “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” — the Educational Tour on September 27 through 29.

Join the Barton College community as they kick off the academic year with this frolicking, original adaptation of a classic Shakespearean tale.  Theatre Raleigh brings this creative version to life with focus on storytelling and humor. Audiences can expect a high-energy performance, including music, dancing, interaction with students and patrons of all ages in a family-friendly production.

Barton College is thrilled to host two student-focused performances on Friday, Sept. 27, at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. in the Kennedy Family Theatre on the Barton campus. Area teachers are encouraged to contact Amanda Metts, assistant vice president for enrollment management at Barton College, at ahmetts@barton.edu for more information regarding a group discount for students’ school trips to Barton College to see this special educational performance.

Regular performances of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be held in the Kennedy Family Theatre beginning Friday evening at 7:30 p.m., and continuing on Saturday afternoon and evening at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively, and concluding on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.

“Our goal in bringing this show on campus is to make the text accessible, entertaining, and easy to understand,” shared Sherry Lee Allen, interim director of Theatre at Barton. “It takes the fear out of Shakespeare, and it is a gift to our community and local educators.” There also will be an opportunity for a post-show Q&A session and photos with cast members.

Allen added, “There is a Teacher’s Resource Guide available for those who wish to coordinate an introduction to this contemporary spin on Shakespeare’s whimsical tale of fairies, lovers and woodland mischief” as offered by Lauren Kennedy, Director of Theatre Raleigh.

Tickets for regular performances are available at the door (or in advance at http://www.barton.edu/theatre). General admission is $10 for adults and $5 for youth, seniors (65 and over), and military. Tickets are free for Barton College students, faculty, and staff with a valid Barton ID.
