Theatre at Barton Opens the 2018-19 Season with Sondheim’s “Into the Woods” November 8-11

WILSON, N.C. — November 1, 2018 — Take a cow as white as milk, a cape as red as blood, hair as yellow as corn, a slipper as pure as gold…add a sinister wolf, a raging giant, a pair of lovelorn princes, and a handful of magic beans…shake vigorously, and you just may have one of the most beloved musicals of our generation! The Kennedy Family Theatre opens its 10th season with Stephen Sondheim’s modern classic, “Into the Woods.”

Theatre at Barton’s fall show, directed by Sherry Lee Allen, opens on Thursday, November 8, at 7:30 p.m., in the Kennedy Family Theatre on the campus of Barton College in Wilson. Additional performances will be held on Friday and Saturday evenings, Nov. 9 and 10, at 7:30 p.m., with an afternoon performance to follow on Sunday, Nov. 11, at 3 p.m.  A preview performance, by invitation only, will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 7:30 p.m.

“I am just thrilled and very proud that Barton is taking on this tremendously intricate musical, shared Sherry Lee Allen, director of the fall production. “The students are working hard to bring each character to life through complex song and storytelling. We are featuring many students and showcasing an immense amount of talent on this journey.”

This award-winning musical weaves together characters and plot lines from many well-known children’s fairy tales, but this cautionary tapestry is intended for audiences of all ages.

“When we look back at the past 10 years of Theatre at Barton, it’s staggering to think how far our program and our students have come,” shared Adam Twiss, director of Theatre at Barton. “With the addition of resident artist for musical theatre Sherry Lee Allen and technical director Michael Dornemann, our theatre production quality has never been higher. Now, we can boast that, along with the tremendous academic and athletic developments on campus, outstanding performing arts also contribute to Barton’s being ranked among the region’s ‘Best Colleges.’”

Tickets are available at the door (or in advance at www.barton.edu/theatre). General admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors (65 and over), alumni, and military, and $6 for youth. Tickets are free for Barton College students, faculty, and staff with a valid Barton ID.
