WILSON, N.C. — May 14, 2022 — Despite the threat of rain, blue sky and sunshine filtered through trees to set the stage for a beautiful morning, as graduates and their families gathered with the Barton College community on center campus for the 120th Commencement Exercises on Saturday, May 14. J. Eric Boyette, Secretary for the North Carolina Department of Transportation, was the featured speaker. He reminded Barton’s graduates to accept challenge and run with it, to have fun along the way, and, while they challenge themselves, to also enjoy what they are doing. The Barton College Community is excited to welcome our graduates, their families, and friends for the 120th Commencement Exercises this morning on Center Campus. Commencement Exercises will begin at 10:30 a.m. We encourage your early arrival for parking and to choose your seats. Because there is a possibility of rain, we encourage you to bring small umbrellas and ponchos. If there is a need for weather-related updates regarding the commencement exercises, we will post those messages on this alert notification webpage, on the campus inclement weather phone message line at 252-399-6868 and through campus email. Be safe traveling.  We look forward to celebrating our graduates and their academic achievements!

Barton College’s 120th Commencement To Be Held On Saturday, May 14

WILSON, N.C. — May 4, 2022 — J. Eric Boyette, Secretary for the N.C. Department of Transportation, will be the featured speaker at the 120th annual commencement exercises of Barton College scheduled for Saturday, May 14, on center campus at 10:30 a.m. Dr. Douglas N. Searcy will preside over his seventh commencement program as president of Barton College. Dr. Kevin N. Pennington, vice president for academic affairs, will present the 2022 Class of 255 undergraduate and graduate students. Participating in this year’s commencement ceremony will be students who completed their baccalaureate degree requirements in December 2021 and May 2022, as well as undergraduate candidates who expect to fulfill requirements over the summer. WILSON, N.C. — April 4, 2022 — J. Eric Boyette, Secretary for the N.C. Department of Transportation, will be the featured speaker at the 120th annual commencement exercises of Barton College scheduled for Saturday, May 14, on center campus at 10:30 a.m. Boyette was named Secretary for the N.C. Department of Transportation by Governor Roy Cooper in February 2020. As transportation secretary, Boyette oversees one of the largest state-maintained highway systems in the nation, and all modes of transportation, including aviation, ferries, rail, public transit and bicycle and pedestrian transportation, as well as the Office of Civil Rights and Division of Motor Vehicles.
