Barton’s Friends of Visual Arts Welcomes Artist David Molesky to Discuss the Impact of Technology on Figurative Art on April 9th

WILSON, N.C. — April 3, 2024 — The Barton Art Galleries at Barton College is excited to host the Friends of Visual Arts Spring Lecture featuring artist David Molesky. Internationally recognized for his expertise in the field of figurative painting, Molesky’s lecture will focus on the “Impact of Technology on Figurative Art.” His presentation will include an overview of new technologies that are advancing contemporary representational art. He will discuss classical painters working with gaming software and sculptors that use 3D scanning tools, as well as computer scientists that resurrect dead artists and create new authentic artistic entities with the help of AI.

The event will be held on Tuesday, April 9, at 6 p.m., in the Barton Art Galleries in Case Art Building on campus.

This event is open to the public at no charge, and the community is invited to attend. For additional information, please contact the Barton Art Galleries at artgalleries@barton.edu or call 252-399-6476.

About the Speaker —

Molesky grew up in and around Washington, D.C., and New York City, and graduated from  the University of California at Berkeley in the late 1990s. Having supported himself primarily through the production of oil paintings, he began making frequent contributions as a journalist when he moved from San Francisco to NYC in 2013. His first published article was translated into other languages and reprinted in books and magazines abroad. Shortly after, he was invited to guest-curate his first traveling museum exhibition, titled “Et In Arcadia, Ego,” which included many of the artists who also had been earlier subjects of his writing.

In art books and magazines such as “Juxtapoz” and “Fine art Connoisseur,” Molesky has contributed nearly 200 published articles, mostly about contemporary figurative painting. Art institutions across the U.S., Europe, and Asia have called upon Molesky to curate traveling exhibitions, lead panel discussions, and to speak on podcasts and at conferences.
