WILSON, N.C. — April 10, 2024 — Barton College is excited to welcome the greater Wilson community to join the campus for “Focal Day,” during the 17th Annual Barton College Days of Scholarship and Engagement, on Tuesday, April 16. The theme for the week is “Sharing the Light of Student and Faculty Scholarship,” and, this year, the week-long event (April 15-19) is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Michael Fukuchi. An abbreviated schedule for the full week is noted below, and the full schedule with details of all the presentations is available at https://tinyurl.com/zrzcaasz.
This annual Barton College event celebrates scholarship on campus as students and faculty across the disciplines present a wide variety of impressive research and creative works completed during this academic year.
The “Focal Day” on Tuesday will begin at 9 a.m. with a plenary session in Hardy Alumni Hall, featuring keynote speaker, Shannon Baker, Class of 2021, who will discuss “Sharing the Light: Walking in Scholarship.” Additional highlights in the morning will include an opportunity to meet students in Hackney Library for the Poster Session from 10:30 a.m. – Noon, where they will be prepared to discuss their research (summarized in poster presentations on view), as well as the Gallery Crawl from 11 a.m. -12:30 p.m., where guests may visit the Barton Art Galleries in Case Art Building to see additional creative works by Barton students.
Baker will perform with her band, “Shannon Baker and Sometime Soon” during the lunch hour on center campus. This promises to be a special treat for all in attendance.
The afternoon provides more opportunities to hear research presentations from students and faculty that will cover a wide variety of topics and interests. These 50-minute sessions will be held in Nixon Nursing Building and in Moye Science Hall from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. An extensive list of sessions and topics are noted in detail in the full schedule of events at https://tinyurl.com/zrzcaasz.
