WILSON, N.C. — November 2, 2020 — The Barton Art Galleries at Barton College is excited to host the Friends of Visual Arts Fall Lecture featuring Gab Smith, executive director of CAM (contemporary Art Museum) in Raleigh. The event will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 6 p.m., in the Barton Art Galleries in Case Art Building on campus. The title of Smith’s presentation will be “Contemporary Art Museum As Change Agent.”
Seating will be limited and advance reservations are required because of social distancing requirements, but there is no charge to attend the lecture. Masks will be required for all those attending. About the Speaker —
Smith’s leadership has created an active and inclusive contemporary art museum in Raleigh’s Warehouse District that engages the community with some of the most exciting national, regional, and local artists working today. Smith has fostered the artists in some of CAM’s most powerful exhibitions, including Thomas Sayre, Sarah Cain, Martine Guitierrez, and Margaret Bowland.
She also leads the ground-breaking Middle School Docent Program and founded CAM to GO, the museum’s innovative outreach program that brings art projects inspired by CAM’s exhibitions to the Alexander and SE YMCAs, the Brentwood Boys and Girls Club and local libraries. She holds a Master of Arts degree from Duke University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from North Carolina State University. Smith is a native of Owls Head, Maine.
