Barton College Expects a Large Turn-Out for Nursing Career Day on Sept. 26

WILSON, N.C. — September 25, 2017 — One of the most highly anticipated career days on campus is Barton College’s annual Nursing Career Day. And, it returns this fall with its largest list of employers and graduate schools in the past 10 years. Twenty-five potential employers and graduate school recruiters will be on campus Tuesday, Sept. 26, from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. to meet nursing students and discuss their next steps after graduation.

The focus of the Nursing Career Day is to introduce students to potential employers to learn more about the diversity of job offerings across the region and to meet graduate school recruiters to obtain specific details about applying to graduate programs.

This career fair is open to all healthcare-related majors, but it specifically focuses on nursing majors. All junior and senior nursing majors will be in attendance, which includes approximately 90 students, as well as many freshmen and sophomore students interested in pursuing a nursing degree.

“For freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, this opportunity provides a real-life experience networking with professionals in their declared discipline, to learn more about the skills and experiences needed to enter the field, and to discuss the application process with employers with whom they are interested,” explained Dr. Yasmine Farley, assistant director for career development. “For seniors, this career fair is their time to shine in front of employers to increase their chance of being hired. With resumes in hand, this is a once-a-year opportunity our seniors will not want to miss.

“Nursing Career Day also allows Barton a chance to showcase the excellent teaching of our nursing faculty by how well our students present themselves and share their knowledge and experience with the visiting employers and recruiters,” Dr. Farley continued. “This is definitely a mutually beneficial experience as the employers and graduate school recruiters get to meet excellent students who will be well prepared to step into the professional setting or take that next step into graduate studies once they complete their study at Barton.”

A complimentary lunch for visiting guests, following the fair at 12:30 p.m., will provide a perfect opportunity for the employers and graduate school recruiters to network with Barton College faculty and staff and learn more about the Barton Experience.

Among those employers and graduate school recruiters attending will be: Barton College School of Nursing (Wilson); 3HC-Home Health and Hospice Care (Goldsboro); CarolinaEast Health Systems (New Bern); Carteret Health Care (Morehead City); Cherry Hospital – NC DHHS (Goldsboro); Cone Health (Greensboro); Duke University School of Nursing (Durham); East Carolina University College of Nursing (Greenville); Halifax Regional Medical Center (Roanoke Rapids); Johnston County Public Health Department (Smithfield); Lenoir-Rhyne University (Hickory); LifeCare Hospitals of North Carolina (Rocky Mount); Maxim Healthcare (Raleigh); Nash UNC Health Care (Rocky Mount); N.C.
