Barton College  Weather Advisory 2 — Hurricane Ian

Barton College’s Emergency Response Team is closely monitoring Hurricane Ian and the anticipated storm track models. As a result of newly updated reports, the College has made the following decisions.

CLASS AND ACTIVITY CANCELLATION SCHEDULE  – All classes and all campus events/activities, including athletics, will be canceled for Friday, and the College will be closed beginning at Midnight (12 a.m.) on Friday morning, Sept. 30, 2022. We anticipate the College will re-open at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning, October 1, 2022, and classes will resume a normal meeting schedule on Monday, October 3, 2022. (Please monitor your email and the Barton website for College updates.)

CAMPUS OFFICES’ CLOSURE SCHEDULE – College Offices will be closed on Friday, September 30, 2022. Campus Offices will reopen on Monday, October 3, 2022. Essential personnel will remain on duty as assigned by their supervisors.

RESIDENTIAL STUDENTS  – 

Residence halls will remain open and staffed to accommodate those students who choose to stay on campus***If residential students are planning to travel home, please check reliable weather resources before leaving campus.

***All residential students are required to register with Residence Life Staff about where they will be staying (on or off campus) during the storm period

Please stay safe, and use good judgment and caution if you choose to travel away from campus during this storm period. 

DURING THE STORM – Students remaining on campus must abide by storm-related guidelines, which require everyone to remain in their assigned residence halls on campus from Midnight (12 a.m.), September 30, 2022, until 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2022. The exception will be to walk to the Hamlin Culinary Center for meals during the normal serving schedule.

MEAL SCHEDULE – For residential students who cannot leave campus, please be advised that meal service will continue on a regular schedule. If that schedule changes, we will notify students by email and through the Residence Life staff.

VEHICLE OWNERS – IMPORTANT!!! Anyone leaving a vehicle on campus during the storm period should move the vehicle to a paved parking lot on high ground tonight (after 8 p.m. on Thursday night following the football game). Those higher ground parking lots include (P6) Hackney/Waters Parking Lot, (P1) Bell Tower/Main Entrance Parking Lot, (P2) Hackney Library Parking Lot, (P11) Campion Center Parking Lot, (P8) Truist Stadium Parking Lot, and (P10) Whitehead Avenue Parking Lot across from Case Art Building.

***DO NOT LEAVE your vehicles on grass or unpaved gravel parking lots, AND DO NOT LEAVE your vehicles in any parking lots along ACC Drive, where heavy flooding occurs, including the (P5) Hamlin Student Center/Post Office Parking Lot.

MONITORING THE STORM AND ANNOUNCEMENTS – The College will continue to monitor the weather conditions. Students, faculty, and staff will be notified by email, website (www.barton.edu), and the inclement weather phone message lines — (252-399-6868) for students and (252-399-6600) for faculty/staff — for updates regarding the College’s operating schedule.
