WILSON, N.C. — Barton College is pleased to announce alumna Brittany Creamer, class of 2009, as the featured speaker for the 112th Opening Convocation. The annual campus event is scheduled for Tuesday, August 27, at 11 a.m. in Howard Chapel.
A significant tradition at Barton College, Convocation signifies the official opening of the academic year, and provides a particularly meaningful milestone for freshmen as they are ushered into the Barton Experience.
“We are thrilled to have Brittany Creamer as the speaker at our upcoming convocation,” said Dr. Gary Daynes, provost and vice president for academic affairs. “Her rapid career success is a testament to her own hard work and passion, and the quality of the education she received at Barton. Convocation is an event that re-dedicates Barton’s students, staff, and faculty to our common purposes—building knowledge and skills in a context of service and faithfulness. Brittany’s presence is a testament to the success of those purposes.”
Creamer currently serves as New Bern Bureau Chief for WITN-TV and witn.com. However, her first experience in the field of journalism was anchoring her high school’s morning announcements. That small but treasured role opened the door for Creamer to consider a career in broadcast journalism.
She chose Barton College to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications with a concentration in Broadcast Journalism, and she soon became a regular reporter and anchor for the College’s WEDT-TV station. During her senior year, Creamer interned with ABC 11 in Raleigh, which led to her serving as a free-lance producer for the national morning news program “Good Morning America.” Prior to graduation, Creamer also had the opportunity to shadow national GMA anchors Diane Sawyer and Robin Roberts in New York. Three months after graduation in 2009, Creamer was named a news and sports reporter for WITN-TV and witn.com.
Creamer’s Barton Experience also included playing intercollegiate basketball for the Lady Bulldogs. She was an active student volunteer, serving as a Barton student tour guide, orientation leader, and First Year Seminar Peer Leader. Creamer also is a member of Delta Zeta Sorority.
Creamer and her husband, Brian, make their home in eastern North Carolina.
