Welcome, Barton Bulldogs!

WILSON, N.C. — August 17, 2018 — Our newest Bulldogs have arrived! Barton College welcomed a new class of freshmen and transfers to campus on Thursday, Aug. 16, as parents, grandparents, and siblings helped students move their favorite items from home to their residence halls on campus.

Barton College’s Welcome Weekend extends over the course of four to five days as we have welcomed not only new freshmen and transfers but also the early return of student leaders and athletes. Barton will welcome upperclassmen back to campus later this weekend.

Within the U.S., these newest Bulldogs hail from 23 states as well as the territory of Puerto Rico. From abroad, additional new Bulldogs have arrived from as far away as Sweden, Iceland, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, just to name a few of the countries represented on campus.

Student Orientation Leaders, RAs, the new Cheer and Dance teams, and members of sororities and fraternities have assisted with the move-in process as well as offering directions, advice, and friendly smiles. Dr. Douglas N. Searcy, president of Barton College, was among the first to stop by to welcome students to their new college home. Later, freshmen quickly found their way to New Student meetings and Student Engagement and Success activities, providing welcomed opportunities to get to know each other.

New students will participate in “Bulldog Day” activities on Saturday, and in the “Service of Induction and Naming” on Sunday evening, both long-standing traditions at Barton. The “Service of Induction and Naming” will be followed by an evening reception for new students at the Barton-Graves House, home of President Searcy and his family.

Classes begin on Monday, followed by the annual “Welcome Back Barton Day” celebration that afternoon for all students, faculty, and staff at the College, hosted by the Wilson Chamber of Commerce and Barton College.
