WILSON, N.C. — Oct. 30, 2025 — Barton College will welcome acclaimed fiction writer, essayist, and educator Daniel Chacón as the featured speaker for the upcoming Hispanic Writers and Artists Series program on Thursday, Nov. 6, at 6:30 p.m. in Howard Chapel on the Barton campus. The event, titled The Writer and the Brain,” is free and open to the public.

Chacón serves as professor and chair of the Department of Creative Writing at the University of Texas at El Paso. His work explores creativity, flow, and the imaginal through a lens nuanced by living in between borders and realities.

In his presentation, Chacón will discuss the relationship between writing and cognition, focusing on how time, language, and perception shift when creative flow takes over and the world outside the page seems to disappear.

An award-winning author, Chacón’s fiction and essays have been published widely. His work invites readers to consider imagination, identity, and the human experience of creativity.

The Hispanic Writers and Artists Series at Barton College celebrates voices that illuminate the intersections of culture, language, and creative expression.
