WILSON, N.C. — October 6, 2020 — Congratulations to Barton College’s Bartlomiej Swiderski, a junior business administration major from Warszawa, Poland, who has been named the James H. Bearden Sigma Beta Delta Scholarship Award recipient for 2020. The $1,500.00 scholarship award is provided to encourage and support future academic studies. Recipients of this award are recognized in the top 20% of their class.
“I am honored to be the Sigma Beta Delta scholarship recipient this year,” noted Swiderski. “I did not expect to earn this award, nonetheless, I am delighted to be a part of this exclusive group of SBD members.”
Swiderski, a dean’s list student and member of the Barton chapter of Sigma Beta Delta, was nominated by Ron Eggers, associate professor of business and dean of the School of Business, and Dr. Charles Lanier, associate professor of marketing in the School of Business.
“Bartlomiej Swiderski has been my student in Principles of Marketing and Introduction to Business Statistics courses offered through the Barton College School of Business,” shared Lanier. “He is an enthusiastic yet mature student with strong people skills. During his Barton Experience, he has demonstrated a desire and ability to be a reliable and responsible classmate who can be counted on for contributions to any project.”
Lanier noted additional opportunities seized by Swiderski, also a student-athlete on campus. He has volunteered for projects organized by the Student Athletes Advisory Council (SAAC) and helped to coach young children and teenagers in the Wilson Barracudas Swim Club. And, Swiderski has been intentional in sharing his personal experiences with these young swimmers — life lessons learned through challenges in swimming and in life.
Swiderski has distinguished himself as a leader among his teammates, as evidenced by his MVP recognition during the Barton Swim Team’s 2019-2020 season. He also was named to the 2019-20 CSCAA (College Swimming and Coaches Association of America) NCAA Division II Men’s Swimming All-American Team. Swiderski is the first All-American in the Barton swimming program’s history. His 2019-20 swim team captain, Luis Reyes, credits Swiderski with utilizing excellent motivating and advising skills to further support his team. Swiderski and his teammates realized their competition goals during the 2019-2020 season, earning the coveted conference championship. While the COVID-19 pandemic has temporarily halted intercollegiate competition this fall semester, Swiderski looks forward to this year’s swim competition, which is scheduled to resume in spring 2021.
