WILSON, N.C. — September 29, 2025 — Barton Art Galleries will present the Friends of the Visual Arts Fall Lecture featuring acclaimed arts writer and critic Colony Little on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 6 p.m. in the Case Art Building on the Barton College campus.
Little is a Raleigh-based freelance arts writer and critic whose work centers on amplifying the voices of Black artists, women, and artists of color. She is the creator of “Culture Shock Art,” a contemporary art blog that highlights underrepresented voices in the art world.
After a 20-year career as a commercial insurance underwriter specializing in technology and biotech in Los Angeles and San Francisco, Little transitioned to writing in 2015. Her essays and criticism have appeared in “Art Basel,” “ARTnews,” “Burnaway,” “CARLA,” “Cultured Magazine,” “The Art Newspaper,” and “Walter Magazine.” In 2020, she was awarded the prestigious Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant, and in 2022 she was selected as a member of the MHz Curationist Critics of Color residency. She has also authored exhibition and artist catalog essays for museums and galleries across the United States.
In addition to her writing, Little has served on the Board of Directors for CAM Raleigh and co-chaired Artspace’s 2024 Art Bash, supporting the organization’s mission to connect artists and audiences. She is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley.
