Barton College is hiring a Student Health Services Specialist to provide direct administrative support and patient education under the direction of the Dean of Students/Executive Director of Student Health Services at Barton College. This position is a part-time, nine-month appointment (20–25 hours/week). Some weekend or evening work is required.
Essential Functions:
The Student Health Services Specialist must have excellent presentation, customer service skills, interpersonal skills, and communication skills both in person and over the phone. This position will apply knowledge of departmental operations and policies and procedures to perform complex administrative processes. The Student Health Services Specialist will also solicit, collect, and organize documentation and data into one or more systems. This position is expected to receive and relay messages with accuracy and to respond to varied routine administrative requests.
Essential Tasks:
- Responsible for overseeing the patient registration process, ensuring accuracy of demographic and insurance/payment information.
- Coordinates the patient check-in and check-out processes, including handling co-payments, deductibles, and billing inquiries.
- Responsible for the oversight of cash and monetary receipts in the front office.
- Manages appointment scheduling to optimize the daily schedule and minimize patient waiting times according to policy.
- Fosters effective communication between all staff within the health center.
- Ensures a positive patient experience
Other Responsibilities:
- Provide crisis counseling and recognize the need to refer up for further care as needed.
- Patient follow-up via phone, email, or clinic visit.
- Maintain previous and current student files.
- Comply with confidentiality requirements set forth by the licensing agency, HIPAA, FERPA, and all local, state, and federal regulations.
- The Campus Nurse, the Dean of Students/Executive Director of Student Health Services, and/or the Vice President for Admissions and Student Engagement may assign any additional responsibilities.
Campus-Wide Health Promotion and Education:
- Participate through attendance, and in an administrative capacity, in activities related to physical and mental health and well-being, including health education programs and committees.
- Promotes academic excellence in and outside of the classroom and promotes the college mission and vision.
Other Division-Wide Responsibilities:
- Provide support in all areas of admissions and student engagement as needed by the Dean of Students and the Vice President for Admissions and Student Engagement, including but not limited to:
- Assist in the administration of the Division’s planning, goal setting, budgeting, reporting, assessment, and program review initiatives.
- Regularly review policies and procedures and recommend necessary revisions.
- Assisting in the recruitment, onboarding, and training and development processes of employees.
- Assisting in ensuring compliance with all state and federal guidelines and regulations
- Attending committee meetings as necessary and assisting with other campus-sponsored projects
- Participating in college/divisional activities pertinent to the well-being of students and the college community; serving on college committees, teams, and task forces.
- Establishing and maintaining regular rapport with student support services, Athletics, Admissions/Enrollment Management, Public Relations, Dining Services, Campus Police, etc.
- Performing other related duties as required and assigned is also part of the job description.
Desired Education, Skills, and Experience:
- High school diploma or its equivalent.
- Previous experience in a medical facility front office
- The candidate should possess an intermediate to advanced level of knowledge and experience with electronic health record systems, particularly Epic.
- Must be able to work independently
- The candidate must possess computer proficiency and have experience with Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
