Academic Resources
A number of academic support services are available to you at no cost:
Peer Tutoring
Peer tutors are available to supplement your in-class instruction for most core classes. To learn more about tutoring or to schedule an appointment with a peer tutor, contact the Office of Student Success at 252-399-6541 or email tutor@barton.edu.
The Sam and Marjorie Ragan Writing Center
The tutors in the Ragan Writing Center are available to help with your papers and presentation materials. Visit the Ragan Writing Center online, or contact Dr. Rebecca Godwin at 800-345-4973 x6364 or by email at rlgodwin@barton.edu.
Mathematics Lab
The Math Lab, located on the second floor of Hackney Library, is open every Tuesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and offers free peer tutoring services to students enrolled in Barton’s mathematics courses. For more information, contact the Office of Student Success at 252-399-6541 or email tutor@barton.edu.
Early Alert Referral System (EARS)
EARS provides a way for your professors to note academic behaviors that may indicate obstacles to your academic success. Copies of the EARS report are sent to you; your academic advisor; the Office of Student Success; and, in the case of excessive absences, the vice president for student affairs.
Mid-Term Grade Report
At the mid-term of each semester if you have a D or F in any of your classes, you will receive a letter notifying you of your grades. If you receive a mid-term grade letter, contact your professors, advisor, and the Office of Student Success to develop strategies for improvement.
