Dr. Neal Bengtson has been teaching in the School of Business at Barton College since 1996. He came to Barton from the Department of Business Management at North Carolina State University. Previously, he was an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at NCSU, where he was also an associate in the Department of Industrial Engineering and in the Operations Research program. He also has taught courses for Purdue University in the School of Industrial Engineering, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the Operations Research Department, and Fayetteville State University in the School of Business and Economics.
Bengtson has taught over 25 different courses in management, computer science, and engineering at both the undergraduate and graduate level. He was named Jefferson-Pilot Faculty Member of the Year for the year 2011-2012. His industrial experience includes working as a computer systems analyst for IBM in the Architecture and Telecommications Department and as an aerospace engineer and head of the Department of Systems Simulation for Data Processing Associates, where he worked on space shuttle development. Prior to that, he worked for Fairchild Industries on advanced satellite design.
Dr. Bengtson has written over 35 research papers, including more than 15 peer-reviewed publications in such journals as IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering, Computer Communications, International Journal of Bio-Medical Computing, Journal of the Operational Research Society, Simulation, Software: Practice and Experience, Agricultural Systems, and Mathematics and Computer Education.
