Barton College invites applications for a full-time, assistant professor–tenure track, dual appointment–to the history and religious studies programs in the School of Humanities. The appointment will begin in the fall 2021 semester. Only candidates with a Ph.D. in hand or a scheduled dissertation defense will be considered. The area of expertise is open, but qualified candidates must demonstrate ability to teach in the areas of religious studies and a corresponding historical area. For example, legitimate candidates might be able to teach undergraduate courses in Chinese religions and the history of Asia, or Islam and the history of the Middle East, or medieval history and Judaism and Christianity. However, this will not include a specialty in American religion and United States history. Additional teaching duties will also include teaching both halves of a survey in World history. Ability to teach introductory philosophy courses would also be preferred. Competency to teach in both areas will be determined by meeting SACS requirements. Thus, each candidate must submit all graduate transcripts—both M.A. and Ph.D.
Interested candidates should also submit a cover letter, current curriculum vita, and contact information for three references (all should be MS Word or PDF format) to Human Resources at email@example.com. Barton College is a four-year liberal arts college in eastern North Carolina, located along the I-95 corridor and one hour east of Raleigh, with an affiliation with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
