Psychology
Degrees Offered:
Bachelor of Science (B.S.)
Overview
Majoring in psychology at Barton provides you with a solid science-based, generalist background—precisely the preparation that will make you a strong contender when applying for jobs or graduate school. Along with small classes and involved faculty, you’ll find opportunities for extensive internship experiences and individual original research.
Thinking about a double major? Whatever your other area of interest – whether it’s biology, religion, business, English – majoring in psychology will enhance your learning in that field.
Special Features
As part of the major, you’ll design an independent research project. Through a series of classes and with substantial guidance by Barton professors, you’ll gain invaluable experience collecting and analyzing data, producing a written report, and presenting your findings to the Barton community. Most students also present their findings at the Carolinas Psychology Conference held in Raleigh, NC.
You’ll also complete a 150-hour, off-campus internship. Our small size enables us to help you find a placement in an area specifically suited to your interests.
