Sharon I. Shepard, Ph.D., R.N.

Dr. Sharon Shepard is in her second decade of leadership as the chief academic nursing officer of the Judy Howard Hill Nursing Program and founding leader of the Master’s of Science in Nursing. Dr. Shepard is a recipient of The 2014 Lincoln FInancial Faculty Member of the Year Award. Dr. Shepard Previously served East Carolina University where she was an associate professor in the Junior Division of the Department of Undergraduate Nursing Science in the College of Nursing from January 2002 to June 2010. Dr. Shepard is a recipient of the North Carolina Board of Governors Distinguished Professor of Nursing award. She is the current President of the North Carolina Council for Higher Education in Nursing. Dr. Shepard is a previous president of the National Association of Bariatric Nurses.. She has published and presented aspects of childhood special needs including obesity and homecare of medically fragile children. Dr. Shepard previously served at Barton College (then Atlantic Christian College) from 1988-1994 and Berea College in Berea, Kentucky, from 1994-2000. Current research interests include: the scholarship of teaching  curriculum development and global health issues especially disparities in health and access to care for children and families.
