Dr. Lyons’ research interests include procedural justice and its application to campus policing and the criminalization of mental illness. He previously served as Dean of the School of Arts, Social Sciences, and Communications and as an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at Saint Augustine’s University. Before his career in higher education, he worked as a juvenile court counselor for North Carolina’s 7th Judicial District and as a case manager for the Edgecombe County Juvenile Day Reporting Center. Dr. Lyons is actively involved in community service and is a member of the Nash County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council and the Project Hope ’07 Program for At-Risk Youth. He enjoys teaching a variety of courses, including Juvenile Justice, Criminal Justice Theory, and Criminal Justice Internship.
