Barton College/Wilson Symphony Orchestra
In 1964, a group of musicians formed a small string ensemble. Today, this group is more than 50 members strong and is known as the Barton College/Wilson Symphony Orchestra. The Symphony is a teaching orchestra that includes musicians from Barton College and the Wilson community.
Its board of directors, in cooperation with Institutional Advancement, supplements support of the orchestra through fundraising efforts that enable the orchestra to hire professional musicians who perform during concerts and serve as mentors for student musicians. The orchestra provides an extraordinary opportunity for members of the College and Wilson communities to join their musical gifts and talents for the study and performance of symphonic music.
The orchestra draws its strength from the cooperative effort of Barton College and the Wilson community. Music, at this distinctive level, enhances our cultural lives. However, quality is expensive. The Barton College/Wilson Symphony Orchestra funds a part of its operative expenses with annual memberships.
