Advising

First-Year Advising

First-year instructors teach First-Year Seminar (FYS) and serve as advisors to the students in their FYS courses. Even if you’ve chosen a major outside of your FYS instructor’s discipline, he or she can advise you about your major. Each FYS course covers topics including college success, emotional intelligence, and research of majors and careers.

Upperclassman and Transfer Student Advising

Each academic school or department provides advising services that facilitate students’ transition into the academic major and encourage a sense of community. The Advisor-Advisee meeting kicks off the advising and pre-registration period each semester. This group advising meeting is followed by mandatory individual advising appointments. An advisor signature is required for initial course registration as well as dropping and adding courses.
