Weather Advisory 3 – Friday morning, September 27, 2024 (7:17 a.m.)
Members of the Barton College Community,
Barton College continues to closely monitor Hurricane Helene as it moves toward North Carolina.
Wilson is not under a weather alert.
Barton College plans to follow a normal operating schedule today. Should weather conditions deteriorate, precipitating a need to alter normal operations at the College, notifications will be sent to all students, faculty, and staff through email, and posted on the website.
While Wilson is not currently under a weather alert, we anticipate some periods of heavy rainfall with higher winds late morning and into the afternoon in our area, as the storm moves through North Carolina. And, with those conditions, there is always the possibility of isolated tornadoes.
We encourage everyone to have a heightened awareness of their surroundings as they travel this afternoon. Do not cross roadways that are covered with water. There may be localized flooding because of periods of heavy rain, so please use good judgment and caution as you travel.
The worst of the storm is expected to impact the western half of the state, and in particular, the higher terrain. Central North Carolina will experience periods of heavy rain and windy conditions, along with the possibility of isolated tornadoes.
Thank you,
Kathy Daughety
