WILSON, N.C. — Plan to join Dr. Rebecca Godwin, professor of English and director of The Sam and Marjorie Ragan Writing Center at Barton College, for a 2012 Eastern North Carolina Literary Homecoming Community Event to be held at the Wilson County Public Library, on Monday, March 19, at 7 p.m.  This event is open to the public free of charge, and the community is invited to attend. Shelby Stephenson Scheduled for Boone Southern Authors Series on Sept. 14

WILSON, N.C. — Barton College will welcome poet Shelby Stephenson as the featured speaker for the annual Joyce T. Boone Southern Authors Series. The lecture will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 14, in The Sam and Marjorie Ragan Writing Center at 7:30 p.m. The program is open to the public at no charge, and the community is invited to attend. “The Sound of Poets Cooking” and “Fleur-de-Lisa” to be featured at Barton on April 23rd

WILSON, N.C. — On Saturday, April 23, The Sam and Marjorie Ragan Writing Center on the campus of Barton College will host a poetry reading, followed by a concert by the female vocal harmony quartet Fleur-de-Lisa. The program will begin at 2 p.m. Following the reading and musical performance, a free poetry workshop will be offered for poets of all levels, fledgling poets and veteran poets alike. The event is free of charge, and the community is invited to attend. Attendees are invited to bring one or more cans of food to share with Hope Station, Wilson’s local food pantry. Walking into April Poetry Day at Barton on April 9

WILSON, N.C. — The ninth annual Walking Into April Poetry Day at Barton College is scheduled for Saturday, April 9, at The Sam and Marjorie Ragan Writing Center and is sponsored by the North Carolina Poetry Society (NCPS), the Gilbert-Chappell Distinguished Poet Series, and Barton College. Registration opens at 9:15 a.m., and the program begins at 9:45 a.m. Featured poets include Sara Claytor, Peter Makuck, and John Hoppenthaler, Gilbert-Chappell Distinguished Poet for Eastern North Carolina.
