WILSON, N.C. — “Like It, Love It, Got To Have It: The Ins and Outs of Addiction” is the title of the upcoming psychology lecture by Cheryl Gentile, Coordinator of Substance Abuse Services at Vidant Medical Center, scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Barton College. Sponsored by the Department of Psychology, in collaboration with the Psychology Club, the event will be held at 6 p.m. in The Sam and Marjorie Ragan Writing Center. The lecture is open to the public at no charge. The community is invited to attend.
As Coordinator of Substance Abuse Services at Vidant Medical Center, Gentile provides assessments, diagnosis, and brief intervention, as well as group and family therapy. She also supervises and evaluates interns in the program. In addition to her work at Vidant, Gentile is the clinical director and owner of East Coast Counseling, Inc., providing counsel for mental health and substance abuse clients, including individual, group, and family therapy as well as handling DWI assessments and DMV evaluations. Gentile also serves as an adjunct instructor in the Department of Rehabilitation Studies in the School of Allied Health at East Carolina University.
Gentile earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hunter College in New York, and a Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation and Substance Abuse Counseling from East Carolina University. She is certified as a licensed professional counselor supervisor, certified clinical supervisor, approved clinical supervisor, licensed clinical addiction specialist, licensed professional counselor, master addiction counselor, and a certified rehabilitation counselor.
She serves on the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board and the Pitt County Substance Abuse Coalition, and on the Human Rights Committee for the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Testing Centers, Inc. (ADATC). Gentile currently serves as treasurer of the Professional Association of Rehabilitation Counselors (PARC) and the North Carolina Professional Association of Rehabilitation Counselors (NCPARC). She also is a member of the Carolina Group Psychotherapy Society (CGPS).
