“Tradition and Intuition: Celebrating North Carolina Pottery” on Exhibit at the Barton Art Galleries

The exhibition, scheduled for March 17 through April 11, will feature works by Cynthia Bringle, Dan Finch, Brown Holloman, Daniel Johnston, Senora Richardson Lynch, Ben Owen, Jane Peiser, Ronan Kyle Peterson, Hiroshi Sueyoshi, Gertrude “Gay” Smith, Liz Summerfield, and Julie Wiggins. “Tradition and Intuition: Celebrating North Carolina Pottery,” an invitational exhibition to be held at the Barton Art Galleries on the campus of Barton College, will showcase North Carolina’s rich diversity and history of pottery making, ranging from Native American pots, to the traditional utilitarian earthenware and stoneware of the Appalachian, piedmont and coastal plains. Shelby Stephenson Scheduled for Boone Southern Authors Series on Sept. 14

WILSON, N.C. — Barton College will welcome poet Shelby Stephenson as the featured speaker for the annual Joyce T. Boone Southern Authors Series. The lecture will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 14, in The Sam and Marjorie Ragan Writing Center at 7:30 p.m. The program is open to the public at no charge, and the community is invited to attend. “Emerge” 2011 Senior Art Exhibition Opens On April 10

WILSON, N.C. – “Emerge,” the 2011 Barton College Senior Art Exhibition, opens on Sunday afternoon, April 10, with a reception from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. in the Barton Art Galleries. Gallery talks by the artists will be held on Wednesday, April 20, at 4 p.m. Both events are open to the public at no charge, and the community is invited to attend.  The exhibition will run until Monday, May 5. Barton Welcomes Hunt and Pearce for “Jim Hunt: A Biography” Book Signing To Be Held on Monday, Nov. 8

WILSON, N.C. – Barton College will welcome Governor James B. Hunt, Jr., and author Gary Pearce for a book signing for “Jim Hunt, A Biography,” soon to be released by John F. Blair, Publisher.  The book signing will be held on Monday, Nov. 8, in the Bridgestone Americas Atrium of the Lauren Kennedy and Alan Campbell Theatre from 6-8 p.m.  At approximately 7 p.m., Governor Hunt and Pearce will make brief remarks and take questions from the audience. WILSON, N.C. – Children’s book author and illustrator Bonnie Christensen returns to the Barton College campus for a book signing and reception, celebrating her latest work “Django: World’s Greatest Jazz Guitarist.” Sponsored by the Friends of Hackney Library, the event will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 8, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. in the library.  Light refreshments will be served.
