WILSON, N.C. — Remember the overtime, buzzer-winning lay-ups by Barton point guard Anthony Atkinson, the “We Believe” chants by the fans that raised the rafters in the Dog House, and the emotional, triumphant “Welcome Home” for the Bulldogs following the 2007 national championship win as Wilsonians lined the streets from the city limits to Wilson Gymnasium?
Who could forget? What a season; what a team!
Plan now to join the Bulldogs on Friday, Feb. 24, at 7:30 p.m. to help recreate the energy and enthusiasm of that remarkable season in Wilson Gymnasium as Barton College welcomes Rob Child, award-winning director/producer, and actor Charles Mathers to campus. Child and Daniel Drennon, screenplay writer and co-producer, are partnering to create a faith-based movie, “We Believe,” based on the true story of Barton College’s run to the 2007 NCAA DII Championship.
Child and Mathers will be in attendance at the Bulldogs’ Senior Night game on Feb. 24 to tape a promotional film about Barton’s celebrated championship run. The short film, featuring Mathers as Atkinson, will be used to encourage investors to support the proposed movie to be distributed by Cloud Ten Pictures.
“This is an extraordinary opportunity for Wilsonians to be a part of Barton’s history as Rob Child seeks to capture that enthusiasm that sparks “Bulldog fever” in the Dog House each basketball season,” shared Gary Hall, director of athletics. “We look forward to a large crowd on Feb. 24 to show Rob and Charles just how contagious this energy can be as he tapes this promotional film. The possibility of a movie based on Barton’s 2007 championship season is an exciting testament to the perseverance of those young men and of our community members who surrounded the team with their undying belief that the Bulldogs would bring home the championship trophy.”
Barton College Bulldogs invite members of the Wilson community to join them for an exciting evening of basketball and an equally thrilling half-time period when Child will film the fans in the bleachers, recreating the “We Believe” electricity that spread throughout the Dog House each game night of that phenomenal season. Be sure to wear your “Barton Blue,” and plan to bring your signs from the 2007 season if you still have them, or make new “We Believe” signs. Your signs will serve as your ticket into the game that evening and will provide great props for the filming at halftime.
