“Generation Digital Y” Opens in the Barton Art Galleries on April 5

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton Art Galleries are proud to present “Generation Digital Y,” an exhibition of designs and photographs by the 2008 graduating Barton art students. “Generation Digital Y” will open on April 5, with a reception from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. This event is open to the public at no charge, and the community is invited to attend. The exhibition will run until Friday, May 9.

Work by Marcos E. Alices-Kinch of Fayetteville will be on view in the Virginia Thompson Graves Gallery. Included in his presentation are designs, point-of-purchase billboard, posters, publication, t-shirt designs and paintings focusing on a marketing campaign named “Turn off the Radio.” The idea behind the campaign is to make people aware of other choices of music.

“I’ve created a certain style throughout the large three panel billboard of paint splatters and brush strokes that were designed on the computer, yet produced by hand,” shared Alices-Kinch.

This is the final stepping-stone on the path of graduation as Alices-Kinch makes plans to graduate in May with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art with a concentration in Graphic Design and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communication with a concentration in Broadcast/Video Production. Alices-Kinch is the son of Edwin and Maritza Alices of Fayetteville.

On exhibit in the Lula E. Rackley Gallery are the works of John J. Miller, son of Brad and Debbie Miller, from Holliston, Mass. Miller will complete a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art with a double concentration in Graphic Design and Photography. Focusing mainly on landscape and portrait photography, Miller also included commercial design work in his senior presentation.

“I feel my camera work is very strong and the style leans more to the gallery atmosphere,” said Miller. “As a designer and photographer, I seek to capture the essences, mood and emotion of life with innovative and eye catching designs.”

Following graduation, Miller plans to run his own digital design company, “jj miller design.” Formed last year, Miller already done work for companies such as General Motors, Idea Quest, Veer Right Management Group, William M. Lamm and Sons, Winning Pitchers Baseball Academy, and Carolina Cheese Co. These works and others can be found at www.jjmillerdesign.com.

The Barton Art Galleries are located in Case Art Building on the Barton College campus. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday.
