Dr. Tyechia V. Paul holds a Ph.D. in business administration with a concentration in management from Hampton University. She earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration degrees from Morgan State University.
Paul began her career in 1998 conducting citizen engagement activities for the City of Plainfield, New Jersey, Office of the Mayor. She went on to work for brokerage firms T. Rowe Price and Wells Fargo Advisors (formerly Wachovia Securities). In brokerage, Paul was responsible for procurement management, development of supplier diversity, and cultural competence programs, as well as development and delivery of compliance and soft-skills training. She also led employee volunteer programs that served community-based organizations such as the United Way and the Linwood Robinson Senior Center.
Paul spent six years in the legal industry working with the firms Miles & Stockbridge and DLA Piper as an IT instructor/e-learning specialist. There, she developed and delivered workforce training in classroom-based and distance-based formats to employees nationwide. She designed internal corporate universities at both firms. With DLA Piper, she also developed e-learning and technological optimization strategies for the firm’s legal information systems and other applications.
Prior to joining the Barton faculty, Paul taught undergraduate management and law classes at Bowie State University, both in person and online. There, she served on the university’s IT Advisory Board and the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning Advisory Board. She also taught management at the doctoral level for Hampton University.
Paul joined the faculty of Barton College in 2015 and teaches management in the School of Business. As Director of the Barton Leadership Initiative (BLI), Paul delivers timely and cutting-edge business-career preparatory seminars to the students of the BLI. She establishes mutually beneficial partnerships among Barton College, its corporate partners, and community stakeholders; and she facilitates mentorship between the BLI students and the BLI’s network of successful business professionals. She also serves on the Barton College Honors Council.
Paul’s research interests include organizational behavior, workforce development, cultural competency, and effects of globalization on developing economies. She is an active researcher and has published multiple articles. She has been a member of the Academy of Management, the Association for Talent Development, and the Society for Human Resource Management. Additionally, she is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Paul resides in Clayton with her husband, Kenneth, and their son, Brendon. In her spare time, Dr. Paul enjoys traveling, cooking, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
