Matthew Hands teaches courses in both the general education program and the lateral-entry program in the School of Education. As a lateral-entry teacher himself, he has experience teaching general education students in grades 1-5, including looping four years with a cohort and blocking as a math instructor. Additionally, he has experience in the administrative setting at the high school level, has assisted in the creation of district-level pacing guides and benchmark assessments, and was twice awarded school-level Teacher of the Year. He received a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Kent State University, a master’s degree in teaching from North Carolina A&T State University, and a graduate certification in school leadership from Appalachian State University. He is licensed in the areas of elementary education (K-6) and school administrator (principal).
