Dr. Onori earned his Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Baker University, Kansas, in 1998. After a brief stint at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Kansas, he joined the staff at UNC Children’s Hospital in 1999. He received his doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2013. As a pre-doctoral fellow at UNC, Dr. Onori focused his research on chronic disease prevention and management, with particular interest in childhood obesity.
Dr. Onori’s clinical practice is primarily in critical-care nursing, covering such varied areas as pediatric surgery, adult trauma, surgical, neurosurgery, and coronary care in the acute and intensive care settings.
Dr. Onori’s research interests include methods of management and prevention of type-II diabetes in underserved rural populations, the use of nursing diagnoses in the care of hospitalized patients with chronic illnesses, and methods for enhancing student learning and improving student-teacher interactions in the learning environment.
