WILSON, N.C. — Take a short and scenic ride up the Atlantic Coast for an artistic trip you won’t soon forget. Friends of Visual Arts at Barton College invites you to join its annual fall excursion on Saturday, Sept. 12. This year’s outing takes travelers to the beautiful Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, Va. Participants will depart from the Kennedy Family Theatre parking lot on campus at 7:30 a.m., and arrive in Norfolk at 10 a.m. Highlights of the trip include docent tours of the museum’s glass and modern galleries, a glass-making demonstration in the “hot shop” studio, and lunch at Wisteria Café. WILSON, N.C. — The beginning of a new academic year brings with it a new exhibition at the Barton Art Galleries. “Cat’s Cradle,” featuring paintings by visiting artist Jeanette Cole, goes on display Monday, Aug. 24 and runs through October 2. An opening reception and gallery talk lecture featuring the artist will be held Thursday, Sept. 3. The reception begins at 5 p.m., with the lecture to follow at 6:30. All events are open to the public at no charge, and the community is invited to attend. WILSON, N.C. — May 20, 2015 — Two hundred and fifty-seven Barton College seniors received diplomas on Sunday, May 17, during the school’s 113th annual commencement exercises. Participating in the ceremony were Barton students who completed their baccalaureate degree requirements in December 2014 and May 2015, and baccalaureate candidates who expect to fulfill requirements over the summer. Graduates are listed by their hometowns; their names are followed by degrees and majors and, where applicable, honors will appear in parentheses. WILSON, N.C. — May 5, 2015 — Barton College was well represented at the 61st annual North Carolina Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference held April 9-11 in Charlotte.  Three Barton chapter members participated in a variety of competitive events and attended general sessions, regional meetings, and leadership seminars. Approximately 250 delegates, representing 26 chapters, attended the annual conference.  First-place, second-place, and third-place winners at the state conference earned the right to compete at the National Leadership Conference to be held in Chicago, IL, in June. WILSON, N.C. — March 24, 2015 — The Honorable Sidney S. Eagles, Jr., will be the featured speaker at the 113th annual commencement exercises of Barton College in Wilson, scheduled for Sunday, May 17. Now retired as Chief Judge for the North Carolina Court of Appeals, Judge Eagles served as a judge of the North Carolina Court of Appeals for over 20 years. He currently practices law in the Raleigh office of Smith Moore Leatherwood LLP. WILSON, N.C. — April 16, 2015 — The Barton College Choir will present their spring concert “Songs and Choruses from Musical Theater” on Thursday, April 30, at 7 p.m. in the Kennedy Family Theatre on campus. The performance is open to the public free of charge, and the community is invited to attend. Conducted by music director Mark N. Peterson, the 17-voice ensemble will perform medleys of songs from the shows “Grease” and “Les Misérables,” as well as a potpourri of songs by Stephen Sondheim and Cole Porter.
