Barton College/Wilson Symphony Orchestra Co-Presents “Carousel”

WILSON, N.C. — A symphony-backed concert version of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s beloved musical comes to eastern North Carolina, with multiple cities and performances planned. “Carousel,” directed by Lauren Kennedy and presented by the Barton College/Wilson Symphony Orchestra, Theatre Raleigh/Hot Summer Nights at the Kennedy, and Theatre at Barton, opens to the public on Thursday, Aug. 27, at the A.J. Fletcher Opera Theater in Raleigh. Evening performances begin at 8 p.m. Thursday – Saturday, and conclude with a Sunday matinee at 3 p.m. on August 30. Barton College Choir’s Spring Concert Scheduled for Thursday, April 30

WILSON, N.C. — April 16, 2015 — The Barton College Choir will present their spring concert “Songs and Choruses from Musical Theater” on Thursday, April 30, at 7 p.m. in the Kennedy Family Theatre on campus. The performance is open to the public free of charge, and the community is invited to attend. Conducted by music director Mark N. Peterson, the 17-voice ensemble will perform medleys of songs from the shows “Grease” and “Les Misérables,” as well as a potpourri of songs by Stephen Sondheim and Cole Porter. WILSON, N.C. — January 28, 2015 — Celebrate Valentine’s Day in gala fashion with the Barton College/Wilson Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, Feb. 14, at the twenty-fourth annual “Love the Symphony.” A much-anticipated annual event, this season’s “Love the Symphony” concert will feature vocalists Joel Gay and Sherry Lee Allen. The event will begin with a reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by the concert at 7 p.m. in Wilson Gymnasium on the Barton campus. WILSON, N.C. — The Lighting of the Luminaries and the Service of Christmas Lessons and Carols, long-standing traditions for the Barton College community, will usher in the 2014 Christmas season on Tuesday, Dec. 2. The College family invites the surrounding community to join them for this festive celebration of events on campus. The celebration will begin with a festive candlelight dinner served in the Hamlin Student Center Dining Hall at 5 p.m. Cost for the meal is $6 for adults and $3 for children and students not on the meal plan. WILSON, N.C. — The Barton College/Wilson Symphony will present its annual Fall Concert on Sunday, Nov. 23, at 3 p.m. in Barton College’s Kennedy Family Theatre. The orchestra, conducted by music director Mark N. Peterson, will feature two gifted soloists performing two beloved baroque concertos. Noted pianist Jeremy Thompson returns to Barton for his third appearance with the orchestra, this time playing the profound “Concerto in D Minor for Piano and Orchestra” BWV 1052 by Johann Sebastian Bach. WILSON, N.C. — The Barton College/Wilson Symphony Orchestra will present their first concert of the 2014-2015 season on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 7:30 p.m. This annual free concert will be held at the Edna Boykin Cultural Center at 108 Nash Street in Wilson. The program will feature noted soprano and former Wilson resident Melinda Whittington, resident artist at the prestigious Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia. The program will include classic, familiar arias from some of the greatest operas by Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Gounod, and others.
