This production is family-friendly and perfect for audiences of all ages.

Featuring Tony Award-winning playwright Ken Ludwig, “Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery” is a fast-paced comedy that blends suspense and humor as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson investigate a mysterious family curse. Based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic novel “The Hound of the Baskervilles,” Ludwig brings his signature comedic style to this lively and entertaining adaptation.

“It is such a joy showcasing the talents and creativity of our students, who are successfully rising to the task of this very challenging production within a limited rehearsal schedule,” shares Theatre at Barton director Sherry Lee Allen. “There is quite an array of crazy characters involved as the story unfolds in this melodrama, and I am excited for our viewers to meet all of them. Can you solve this perplexing case…Elementary!”

The cast is led by Barton junior theatre major Chris Hodges (Sherlock Holmes), Ethan Mason (Dr. Watson), a Wilson Community College student, and Xavier McCreary (Sir Henry Baskerville), a 2024 Barton College alumnus currently working in admissions and student engagement. The production features 37 characters, with three principal roles and the remaining characters portrayed by just five additional actors.

Making their stage debuts are Jessica-Michelle Gayot, Devin Jennings, and Salacia Johnson. The ensemble is guided by 2023 theatre and history alumnus Luke Eason, who takes on the most challenging variety of roles, and Monica Shaver, a political science and history major with minors in English, criminology, and honors research.

The production is directed by Sherry Allen and is the final mainstage show for the academic theatre program. Set and lighting design are by Technical Director Michael Dornemann, with costumes and props by Dorothy Austin-Harrell, director of Pathways and community engagement partnerships. Briana Nicole Tenhet, an alumna of Barton’s theatre program, brings skill and dedication to her role as stage manager.
