Barton Up For ESPY Award

WILSON, N.C. – Bulldog fans across the country have been online all day voting for Barton College in the “Best Finish” category of the 2007 ESPY awards. Electronic voting opened to the public today on the ESPN web site:

The Barton College basketball team’s run to the National D-II Championship and All-American point guard Anthony Atkinson will be center stage on a national stage once again on Wednesday, July 15, at 9 p.m.

The live awards program, to be held at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, Calif., will highlight the greatest worldwide athletic accomplishments of the past year.

Barton will be represented by head basketball coach Ron Lievense and his wife, Darla, along with Atkinson and his parents, Anthony and Vivian.

Atkinson scored Barton’s final 10 points of the 2007 National Championship game as the Bulldogs rallied from seven points in the final 39 seconds to defeat undefeated, top-ranked Winona State 77-75. The Warriors, who had beaten Barton in the 2006 Elite Eight in overtime, were also riding the longest winning streak in D-II history: 57 games.
