Barton Students Held High Profile at Phi Beta Lambda State Conference

WILSON, N.C. — May 5, 2015 — Barton College was well represented at the 61st annual North Carolina Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference held April 9-11 in Charlotte.  Three Barton chapter members participated in a variety of competitive events and attended general sessions, regional meetings, and leadership seminars.

Approximately 250 delegates, representing 26 chapters, attended the annual conference.  First-place, second-place, and third-place winners at the state conference earned the right to compete at the National Leadership Conference to be held in Chicago, IL, in June.

Jamie Barton, a sophomore from Brevard, was re-elected as the eastern region vice president.

Ashley Johnson, a senior from Wilson, earned second place in Retail Management. The chapter’s Annual Business Report, authored by Johnson, the chapter president, placed second. Johnson placed fifth in Management Concepts.

Lorraine Harris, a senior from Winterville, garnered third place with her Community Service project. Harris placed fourth in the Cyber Security event and sixth in Hospitality Management.

Jamie Barton placed seventh in Client Services.

Johnson also received “Who’s Who in North Carolina Phi Beta Lambda” recognition for her outstanding contributions to North Carolina Phi Beta Lambda.

In addition to receiving the Gold Seal Award, Gold Star Chapter, Membership Madness recognition, and the Terry Lowrance Leadership Award, the Gamma Gamma Chapter of Barton College received recognition for its monetary contributions to state- and nationally-recommended projects. The chapter was also recognized as the largest local chapter of Professional Division members in the Eastern region.

Teresa Parker of Wilson and Ronald Eggers of Rocky Mount, associate professors, accompanied the student delegation to the state conference. Eggers continues his three-year term on the Phi Beta Lambda Professional Division-Foundation, Inc., board of directors.
