WILSON, N.C. — The Barton College/Wilson Symphony Orchestra will present their Spring Concert on Sunday, May 1, at 3 p.m. in the Lauren Kennedy and Alan Campbell Theatre on the Barton campus. The symphony, under the direction of Mark N. Peterson, will welcome to the Barton stage the internationally acclaimed violinist Marjorie Bagley who will perform Mozart’s vibrant “Violin Concerto in A Major.”
Bagley, a native North Carolinian, will also perform the brilliant “Ziguenerweisen” of Pablo de Sarastate. “We are delighted that an artist of Marjorie Bagley’s caliber is able to include an appearance in Wilson in her busy schedule,” said Peterson. “The pieces she selected display her marvelous artistry and astounding technique.” In addition to these works, the orchestra will play three of Antonin Dvorak’s lively “Slavonic Dances.”
Bagley began her performing career at the age of nine with the Asheville, Winston-Salem, and North Carolina symphonies. She made her Lincoln Center concerto debut in 1997 and studied with the internationally acclaimed violinist and conductor Pinchas Zukerman at the Manhattan School of Music. Bagley currently serves as associate professor of violin at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and is a member of the faculty at the International Music Academy in Pilsen, Czech Republic. She is active as a recitalist and chamber musician, and has performed concertos with numerous orchestras across the country.
Following the concert, the audience is cordially invited to meet the musicians at a reception, hosted by ARAMARK Higher Education, in the Bridgestone Americas Atrium of the Lauren Kennedy and Alan Campbell Theatre.
Admission for the spring orchestra performance will be $10 at the door or by season ticket. All students within the community will be admitted free of charge as well as faculty, staff and students of Barton College.
