ATLANTA – Garnering awards and recognition, eight representatives from the Barton College chapter of Phi Beta Lambda attended the Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) National Leadership Conference in Atlanta, June 21-24.
Receiving acclaim both collectively and individually, the members of Barton’s Phi Beta Lambda chapter once again brought honor to the College. As a group, the chapter received the Gold Seal Chapter Award of Merit and was recognized as an Outstanding Chapter and as a contributor to the national philanthropy, the March of Dimes.
Several individuals received recognition for their accomplishments in various areas:
Dawn Montoya, North Carolina Phi Beta Lambda State President, coordinated state activities and presided over the North Carolina delegation meeting. Montoya, a senior from Wilson, received a $400 scholarship to attend the PBL Institute for Leaders on June 20-21. She was also recognized for completing two steps in the national Career and Membership Achievement Program.
Montoya; Paola Marte, a junior from the Dominican Republic; and Lauren Prevatte, a senior from Kenly, were acknowledged for their efforts in growing local chapter membership.
The chapter’s Local Chapter Annual Business Report, authored by Montoya, claimed first place.
In Human Resource Management, seventh place went to the team of Prevatte and Kathy Tate-Hildreth, a junior from Four Oaks.
Montoya also presented the chapter’s community service project, which won tenth place.
Also attending the conference were Amanda Moore, a junior from Kinston, and Jaren Palmer, a sophomore from Corpus Christi, Texas. Barton’s School of Business faculty members and PBL chapter advisers Ron Eggers and Teresa Parker accompanied the Barton College delegation and served as competitive-event coordinators during the conference.
Eggers was honored this year as FBLA-PBL President and CEO Jean Buckley announced the addition of Eggers’ name to the FBLA-PBL Adviser Wall of Fame at the FBLA-PBL National Center in Reston, Va. Eggers, who has served as a PBL adviser at Barton College for 20 years, is the eighth North Carolina PBL adviser to receive this honor, making North Carolina the state with the largest numbers of honorees.
Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda Inc. is the national business education association that prepares students for careers in business and business education. Its members, belonging to more than 12,000 chartered chapters, include students from the United States, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Europe. FBLA serves middle- and high-school students, and PBL serves those at post-secondary institutions.
