Barton College FOVA Excursion to Norfolk’s Chrysler Museum

WILSON, N.C. Take a short and scenic ride up the Atlantic Coast for an artistic trip you won’t soon forget. Friends of Visual Arts at Barton College invites you to join its annual fall excursion on Saturday, Sept. 12. This year’s outing takes travelers to the beautiful Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, Va. Participants will depart from the Kennedy Family Theatre parking lot on campus at 7:30 a.m., and arrive in Norfolk at 10 a.m. Highlights of the trip include docent tours of the museum’s glass and modern galleries, a glass-making demonstration in the “hot shop” studio, and lunch at Wisteria Café. The day continues with a tour of the historic Moses Myers House, followed by a wine and cheese reception. Guests will arrive back in Wilson at 8 p.m.

The cost to attend this event is $75 for current FOVA members. For non-members, the cost is $100, which includes membership to FOVA at the Friend level. Transportation to and from the College, tours, lunch, and the reception are all included in this cost.

Known for its acclaimed glass collection, the Chrysler Museum of Art boasts one of the world’s largest and most comprehensive assortments of glass art. This collection represents more than 10,000 pieces spanning 3,000 years. The museum is also famed for its collections of European and American paintings and sculptures, ancient works, modern and contemporary art, photography, and decorative arts.

As the nation’s oldest Jewish home open to the public as a museum, the Moses Myers House allows guests an authentic look into early 19th century American entrepreneurial life. An outstanding example of Federal-style architecture, the house was one of Norfolk’s first brick homes following the Revolutionary War, and it contains dozens of artifacts original to the Myers family. This historic house is administered by the Chrysler Museum, and is one of Norfolk’s signature attractions.
