WILSON, N.C. — Barton College and Wilson Community College are pleased to announce a partnership through the establishment of a new articulation agreement. The purpose of this newly established articulation agreement is to promote a seamless pathway for qualified transfer students from Wilson Community College to pursue a bachelor’s degree at Barton.
“Barton College welcomes this opportunity to partner once again with Wilson Community College through this new articulation agreement,” said Dr. Norval C. Kneten, president of Barton College. “The historic ties we share in our local community further accentuate our collaborative focus on educating students in the greater Wilson area and beyond. And, it is gratifying to see the enthusiasm with which our two campuses are embracing this opportunity for partnership, recognizing that our students are the benefactors as they complete their associate’s degree at Wilson and transfer to Barton to complete baccalaureate and graduate degrees.”
“Faculty and staff from both Colleges have joined forces to articulate the Associate of Arts and Associate of Sciences programs,” said Dr. Rusty Stephens, president of Wilson Community College. “It has been exciting to see faculty partnering to find ways to provide a seamless transfer for Wilson Community College graduates to Barton College. And, I am thrilled at the likelihood of articulations in selected Associate in Applied Science programs as well.”
Both presidents and their campuses are committed to the greater Wilson community as well as the region at large. This new partnership will only strengthen their institutions’ educational commitment to Eastern North Carolina.
This new articulation agreement focuses on Wilson Community College students who have completed their Associate in Arts degree or Associate in Science degree with a 2.0 GPA or higher. Having met all standard admission requirements, these Wilson Community College graduates may transfer to Barton College at the junior level with all baccalaureate general college core requirements satisfied, with the exception of the junior level general education capstone course (GEN 301) that will be completed during the Barton Experience.
Any student who enrolls full time in the Barton College day program under this agreement with Wilson Community College will qualify for an additional tuition scholarship.
“Wilson Community College and Barton College have strengthened their relationship by creating a very workable agreement for our students who wish to stay home and continue their education at Barton College,” shared Dr. Denise Sessoms, vice president of instruction & student development. “The additional scholarship is a gift that will help take some of the financial burden off students as they plan to continue their educational goals.”
This collaboration between Barton College and Wilson Community College supports both institutions’ commitment to academically prepare students to be successful and productive leaders in their chosen professional fields.

This partnership demonstrates how public and private institutions of higher education can work together for Wilson’s well-being.”
