Assistant Professor of Education

The School of Education at Barton College invites applications for a full-time, faculty, non-tenure-track position in Elementary Education and general teacher education at the Assistant Professor level to begin fall 2018.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include teaching elementary methods courses in the areas of science and mathematics and other courses in teacher education, supervising field experiences, fostering partnerships with local schools, and working with the School of Education to maintain accreditation. Courses are provided to traditional students and lateral-entry teachers and include face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats. While most courses will be on the undergraduate level, there may also be opportunities to teach courses at the graduate level. Additional responsibilities include appropriate scholarly activity, academic advising, supporting students in assessment processes, helping to recruit students, and providing service to the School of Education and Barton College.

Qualifications

  • A doctoral degree in education (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) with an emphasis in elementary education, or an emphasis in middle school math and science education with some background in elementary education, is preferred. Candidates who have a master’s degree in Elementary Education, especially with strengths in mathematics and science, will also be considered.
  • Public school teaching experience, preferably in grades K-8, is required.
  • Teaching experience in higher education is preferred.
  • Good collaboration skills, the ability to function well as part of a team, and commitment to excellence in preparing beginning teachers are crucial.
