Photojournalism
Overview
Barton’s Photojournalism major offers pre-professional training that prepares you for entry-level positions in the photojournalism industry and equips you for graduate school.
Minors
Non-majors can earn a minor in one of the four concentration areas: Audio Recording Technology, Broadcast/Video Production, Journalism, and Public Relations. The general requirement for a minor is completion of 21 semester hours of designated courses for each concentration area. Please contact the School of Visual, Performing, and Communication Arts for more information.
Special Features
Students will spend at least three semesters in practicum courses gaining hands-on work experience. Photojournalism combines the Mass Communications – Journalism concentration with select photography courses in a separate major program of study. Students learn on industry-standard software and gain skills in working on location as well as in a professional lighting studio. All students complete a 120-hour internship that builds professional contacts while they develop their portfolios.
