Offered As: Minor
The study of mathematics enriches one’s intuition and imagination, while enhancing critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. In the words of British philosopher and mathematician Bertrand Russell, “Mathematics possesses not only truth, but also supreme beauty.” A minor in mathematics is open to any student enrolled in a degree program at Barton College, who is not pursuing mathematics as a major. The course work in the minor will enhance the academic experience and will be viewed favorably by potential employers and graduate schools. Historically, students enrolled in major programs of study in the School of Business, School of Education, and School of Sciences have earned either a double major or minor in mathematics.
Students wishing to minor in Mathematics will enroll in three required courses including MTH 240 – Calculus I and MTH 241 – Calculus II. In addition students will be required to choose three elective courses of which two must be at the 300/400 level.
