Children’s Author/Illustrator Bonnie Christensen Returns to Barton For Book Signing

WILSON, N.C. — Acclaimed children’s author and illustrator Bonnie Christensen will return to Barton’s campus on Tuesday, Dec. 4, for a special book signing sponsored by the Barton College Friends of Hackney Library. The book signing will be held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. in the library. Books will be available for purchase at the book signing. There is no charge for the event, and the community is invited to attend. This is the second book signing on campus for Christensen who held her first signing for her award-winning book “Django” in December 2009. WILSON, N.C. — “Photography for the Painter: Creating Your Best Visuals Workshop,” the second seminar in a new “Lunch and Lecture Series” hosted by the Barton College Friends of Visual Arts, will be held on Thursday, Dec. 6, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Barton’s professor emeritus of art and artist-in-residence J. Barton College welcomes residents of Wilson and the surrounding communities for this festive celebration. WILSON, N.C. — The Lighting of the Luminaries, a long-standing tradition for the Barton College community, will usher in the Christmas season on Tuesday, Nov. 27. The College family invites the surrounding community to join them for this festive celebration of events on campus. The celebration will begin with a festive candlelight dinner served in the Hamlin Student Center Dining Hall at 5 p.m.  Cost for the meal is $6 for adults and $3 for children and students not on the meal plan. Barton College Inducted 26 Students Into Alpha Chi Honor Society

WILSON, N.C. — Barton College’s North Carolina Gamma Chapter of Alpha Chi National College Honor Society recently conducted its 2012 fall induction ceremony and welcomed 26 new members into the fold. Students with a grade point average of 3.5 or better in the top 10 percent of the junior and senior classes are eligible for induction. The minimum grade point average for this induction class was 3.55. WILSON, N.C. — The Barton College/Wilson Symphony Orchestra will present their annual Fall Concert on Sunday, Nov. 18, at 3 p.m. in the Lauren Kennedy and Alan Campbell Theatre on the Barton College campus. The orchestra, conducted by music director Mark N. Peterson, will welcome pianist Beth Levin to the Barton stage.
