Homecoming 2011
What a great Homecoming for the world’s best alumni! The fun kicked off Friday morning with the annual Bulldog golf tournament at the Wilson Country Club as various teams battled to be the best foursome on the course. That evening, new and previous Hall of Fame inductees were honored with the launch of the new digital Athletic Hall of Fame (halloffame.barton.edu). At the banquest that followed, six new members joined the ranks of Hall of Fame inductees: John Eskew (’63), Keith Stutts (’78), Brian Staub (’80), Corey Taylor (’94), Kendrick Cox (’97), and Tony Tilley.

At the Alumni Awards Brunch on Saturday morning, President Norval Kneten announced the beginning of the public phase of an initiative for the campus’ west entrance. Alumni Board President Whit Coolbaugh shared the Alumni Board’s support of the project, stating that the board had already raised a significant amount for the Alumni Promenade, a key component of the new entrance. The presentation of awards followed the announcements. Alexandra Denton Massimi (’08) was named Young Alumna of the Year, W. Lyndo Tippett (’63) and Don E. Lassiter (’74) each received the Alumni Achievement Award, and Phyllis Parish Howard (’79) was honored as the 2011 Alumna of the Year. Saturday afternoon was filled with various reunion events, including the 40th anniversary of the nursing program and the 20th anniversary of Weekend College (now Accelerated Professional Programs). Our Greek alumni lined up for the annual Greek Headcount Challenge, and the sisters of Phi Mu won for the second year in a row. The alumni then battled it out at the Alumni Greek Games for the honor of their sororities and fraternities. Congratulations to the ladies of Sigma Sigma Sigma and the men of Sigma Phi Epsilon, this year’s winners! The evening ended with alumni and students sharing the dance floor at the “Still Crazy After All These Years” Dance, and sophomore Jorge Aguilera of Sigma Phi Epsilon and senior Marilynn Cary of Delta Zeta were crowned Homecoming King and Queen. The weekend wrapped up with Barton Sunday at First Christian Church followed by the alumnae softball game and the alumni baseball game at the Barton College Athletic Complex.
